WRITOBER #29 - Fission Mailed

Mshindo9

"Hey, hey, hey, Bonna. Bonna Fide.

Ignorou-a e ignorou a luz intermitente do comunicador.

The woman carried the other in her arms. They walked into the darkness and left behind the lifeless bodies of her companions. Then they arrived at the shuttle, and soon they would be gone.

"Hey, hey, hey, Bonna. Bonna Fide. Take me with you, please" asked the Ding and Bat AI from the library that came with them on the rescue mission.
"What for?" The pirate stood in front of a terminal.
"I came to learn, to study this new planet. Missing the opportunity to go down there and see it first hand is a huge mistake. Download me into a emanator and you won't notice me."
Twenty good men and women separated into two shuttles. Pirates and volunteers from Xilos armed to storm the ground. Suzako was piloting one shuttle, headset on humming his tunes. He even carried a gun. Bonna was riding the other, heavily equipped with the AI on her belt. Soon enough they left the Chiron towards the planet.
A brief scan revealed few places to land. There were some shuttles bellow, but few targets. When Bonna suggested a new landing place, the AI refused. The ground was very irregular and apart from some safe zones, but far, it was covered by something he was unable to identify.
The mercenaries on land fired as soon as the shuttles came into view, but their higher ground proved an advantage against them. The shuttles surrounded the targets and it didn't take long to end them.
Some jumped before the shuttles touch the ground and ran ahead.
It was night and they couldn't see where they had landed. Besides a few pre-built constructions, the terrain looked like it had seen a big fire: trees and ground black like the darkest night. The AI suggested it wasn't natural, perhaps that place was a good landing spot because the mercenaries had prepare it beforehand. What did they burn? The lights on the weapons did poorly to show beyond the barrier of charred trees. The stench, some noticed, was like burned flesh.
The night sky light up with a flash and for a moment they saw where they were. Some barracks and a humongous forest beyond the clearing.
Guilass left three guards with the shuttles, with Suzako. Split three patrols and ordered two to inspect the barracks. She went with the last into the forest, where the radar showed Guilass for the last time.

The first time Suzako saw combat he did pretty well. The adrenaline kicked in and when he came to himself, he had his gun ready. Comfortably ready. That happened when a patrol of mercenaries jumped through the side of the forest, probably summoned by the fallen comrades. The three pirates were almost caught by surprise but they defended themselves. Only one caught a bullet in the shoulder and fell behind cover.
The other two groups of five soldiers came from the barracks and went into combat as more mercenaries came from the woods. Only one group was vulnerable, the one on the shuttles.
Suzako hugged the ground and crawled beneath a shuttle shooting the legs of the enemies that feel immediately. The rest of the team finished them off. He crawled away from his shuttle to repeat his strategy and then he saw him: Tieton. He wasn't aboard the Heracles. The pirate Captain barked orders, and seemed desperate and madder. He saw his facial expression when something exploded and illuminated the combat. The light would vanish in seconds. That could play for and against him. He dragged his body to the sound of the shooting, controlling Tieton that observed the sky and yelled. It was the perfect opportunity to come closer. And that's what he did.
Allies and enemies died on both sides and bullets flew everywhere and there they were.
Tieton fired on someone Suzako couldn't see. He hid behind a dark trunk, readied his weapon and used the flash of an explosion to target the Captain, He was right next to him, firing on another friend. He jumped up and fired twice: the first shot warned him and the second went through the shoulder.
The Captain of the Heracles didn't even knew him. Didn't listen to his music, wasn't aware of his fear of combat and indifference, and good heart.
Raised his gun and also fired twice on Suzako. He fell on his back. Walked to the man still firing, hitting his chest twice again. The pirate musician spat blood and life, his music escaped through the headset and the last beat he composed was magnificent: Tieton appeared over his head and was about to finish him. Suzako was faster. His arm raised the gun from the ground and found Tieton's head. Fired once. He fell on top of the pirate. Around them, the combat went on. Before he expired, Suzako witnessed the most beautiful and saddest thing in the world: the sky was bright like daytime. As if the stars became supernova, like they were crying, but not for him. No...

*

Bonna listened the firing erupt behind her, and when she was starting to return, her own patrol was ambushed. She only hoped her friend had more luck, he had numerical superiority. At least that.
As for the rest, she couldn't do much more and had a lot to worry about. The AI tried to talk with her but Bonna paid no attention. She ignored it and ignored the flashing light on the com. Everyone wanted to chat with her, but she was busy.
"Write a fucking letter, dammit!" yelled while spraying the tree line. The night sky was covered in orange and it looked like dawn was coming to the end of the world. It lasted for a few seconds, enough to target the enemy.
And when the fight was over, no one was trying to reach her. The AI only had a message from the Chiron...
